1974: I stopped free fall parachute jumping at the age of 17. 1980: Spending the night in a gorilla forest, with the sole company of a Congolese soldier.
Question: since we were alone in the forest, who took the picture?*
1987: In Kinshasa, riots broke out when a referee had disadvantaged the soccer team, but I miraculously escaped 3000 furious protestors.
1991: Teaching math for GIs: "Sir, what is more dangourous, your math or Desert Storm?"
1992: Diving in Lake Tanganyika (Burundi), a few weeks before a hippo ate another diver's leg. 1994: In the genocide epoch I was in the Burundi mountains when the violence broke out, but miraculously escaped to the capital Bujumbura.
1998: Image from my European Space Agency parabolic flight: 30 times 22 seconds of zero-gravity. 2003: Receiving the Lester Ford Award of the Mathematical Association of America.

2005: Image from the theater show 'Africa+'.

2011: I finished a rainy 100km "Death Walk" without extra support (no good food, no extra drinks).
